Teachers were recently given a provincial tax credit for their involvement  in extracurricular activities.
In the federal budget this year, a federal credit was also added, to compensate teachers and other early childhood educators for supplies that they purchase.
It is a refundable credit, for the first $1,000 of eligible school supplies purchased by eligible teachers, and can result in a refund of up to $150 per year.
Teachers will be required to certify that the supplies were purchased for the purpose of teaching or enhancing learning in a classroom or learning setting.
It will be necessary to keep receipts in order for taxpayers to claim this credit.
